The Alera Miracle Story

Hello, my name is Michelle Hilton and I am the CEO of Alera Cosmetics.

I wanted to take a brief moment to tell you the story of how I came to create my company Alera Cosmetics. Alera was created during one of the happiest and saddest times of my life.

Ten Years and Five Miscarriages

During the spring of 2008 I was expecting my first baby (a baby boy). And, oh what a MIRACLE baby this was going to be for my husband and me. You see, I had been trying to have a baby for over 10 years. During those 10 years I had had five miscarriages, which you can imagine were very devastating for me.

With this pregnancy, I was finally for the first time sailing along nicely and had made it to the 7-1/2 month when I started to notice something wrong. I was not feeling "right" so after many calls between my doctor and me, I found myself riding in an ambulance headed for the emergency room!

One hour later, after being admitted to the emergency room we were given the news that would rock our world. My amniotic sack had been leaking and had torn. The baby was in distress and I was in danger.

From Joy to Devastation!

We were devastated with worry about our son and whether he would make it because he was going to be delivered so early. So, at midnight and 6-1/2 weeks early, ready or not I was in labor with my precious baby boy.

After 12 hours of labor our son was born and the doctor and six nurses rushed him to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and we started the process of seeing if our son was going to be okay. Our son, we had named him - Cade, was hooked up immediately to a ventilator and other machines to keep him alive. We were scared, to say the least.

Cade Is Our Miracle Baby

After a few days of extreme anxiety and worry for our little boy we were told that Cade was going to be okay. He was a fighter - our son, and he was going to make it. He ended up surpassing doctors expectations and ended up staying in the NICU for 9 days instead of 2 months.

Everything was right with our world. I was a new mom and we were parents of our very own miracle baby!

Again, Our World Fell Apart...

And then a few weeks later our world fell apart again. We received shocking news...my 58 year old father-in-law (my husband's father) was diagnosed with stage-4 pancreatic cancer. He was terminal and was given only a few months to live.

My father-in-law was full of life, joy and he had been ready to teach his one and only grandson lots of wonderful things. My husband's father died four months after our son was born. Just like that, he was gone from our lives.

My Life Changing Decision

After my father-in-law passed away I awoke one morning with a sense of peace resulting from a decision that I had made for myself and my family. I had decided that life was too short. I had decided that I needed to be home with my miracle son and that I needed to follow my heart and pursue my dream.

My dream was to start my own company.

This is how Alera the company was born. I wanted to start a company that created and sold products that had a positive impact on people's lives, a company that gave back to help sick and in-need children and a company that I could be proud of.

And most importantly, I wanted my company to help women find their own beauty.

Helping You Find Your Inner Beauty

When I created Alera I had a clear vision for what I wanted the company to do - create products that helped women find beauty within themselves. I believe that I have accomplished this and more with the company.

One of the biggest lessons that I have learned through this journey is...It is not how many breaths you take in this life, but rather the moments that take your breath away!!

It is my wish for you to live your life to the fullest each and ever day, find beauty with yourself and your world, love the people in your life, and cherish each day of your life.

I know that I try to accomplish this each and everyday for not only me but all the people that are important to me.
